Bearing Buddies For A 2004 Forest River Rockwood Travel Trailer
Question:
I was planning to get some bearing buddies and have a couple of questions: 1. Is it always necessary to clean, inspect and repack bearings before installing bearing buddies? 2. Should the entire hub be filled with grease before starting with bearing buddies? Otherwise, given that they are air tight, how would the grease push through to the rear bearing? Apologies if my questions make no sense. Im no mechanic!

Before installing The Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors # BB1781 I would recommend inspecting the bearings and clean or repack them if need be before you install the bearing protectors. The protectors have a spring loaded seal that keeps moisture and debris out of the bearings. The pressurized grease from the bearing buddy will maintain bearing function as long as the seal on the hub stays functional.
When filling the Bearing Buddy # BB1781 with grease you need to fill them up into grease starts to seep out of the seal around the piston. You should see the piston extend out past the Bearing Buddy label when it's properly filled. It has an automatic pressure-relief feature so you don't have to worry about blowing out the grease seals.
The bearing buddy fits a hub bore of 1.781 inches. It is constructed of stainless steel internal parts and has a tripe-chrome plated steel barrel. It includes the rubber covers.
