Will the Thule Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Clear Spare Tire on 2005 Honda CR-V

It is possible that the Thule Apex, # TH9025XT, will clear the spare tire on your 2005 Honda CR-V. You will need to take an important measurement to be sure. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the spare tire. I have included a link to an FAQ article that explains how to take this measurement.

If the measurement is less than 12 inches then the rack will clear the spare tire. In that same FAQ article there is a chart on the bottom that shows the important dimensions for this exact issue on many of the bike racks we carry.

Also, if you have a Class I trailer hitch you will be limited to carrying 2 bikes at most. Also you will want to check the vehicle owners manual because the tongue weight capacity of the CR-V is lower than most hitches that fit the vehicle, around 150 pounds. The combined weight of the bike rack and bikes when loaded cannot exceed the tongue weight capacity of the hitch or vehicle, whichever is lower.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
