Correct Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution Hitch for Trailer With 440 Pounds of Tongue Weight

Question:

Looking at a Reese 49912 round bar pro but have a couple questions. Can I back up with this setup? I have a tongue weight of 440 lbs. Isnt the 800/8000 overkill? Would the 49911 suffice @ 600/6000? Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks

You can back up while using the Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution system. However, if you're making very sharp turns I would disconnect the bars to avoid potentially damaging them. The # RE94FR is overkill based on your tongue weight. Assuming that is your loaded tongue weight, you want to use the # RE34FR instead.

Ideally you want to be in the middle of the tongue weight range. This WDH has a range of 200-600 lbs which would be perfect for you. Since you're basically right in the middle, you should stay within that range when unloaded or if you add additional cargo so the hitch will remain effective.

If that is not your loaded tongue weight and is the dry (unloaded) weight then I recommend measuring before you select a WDH. You can use a scale like the # e99044. I also attached a helpful article on determining trailer tongue weight below. If the dry weight was 440 lbs then it is likely you will in fact need the # RE94FR for your trailer.
