Can I Replace Leaf Springs With Lower Rating For Better Ride Quality
Question:
I have a home-made tear camper trailer built on a lightweight aluminum utility trailer. The total weight is about 600 pounds loaded. The ride is very harsh, even with reduced tire pressures. The trailer has 3-leaf springs, which look to be the same as your 1500 pound springs. Can I switch to two-leaf 1000-pound springs to get a smoother ride for the trailer?

Yes, you can swap from the 3-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Radius End for 1,500-lb Trailer Axles - 24-5/8" Long # e99SR to the 2-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Radius End for 1,000-lb Trailer Axles - 24-5/8" Long # e36SR to help reduce how much shock is being transferred to your trailer frame. My only caution going this route is to make sure you don't overload the leaf springs since you're reducing their weight rating.
