Is It Ok For The Bearings On My BT8 Spindle To Be Loose?

I am measuring .9870 shaft looks good round within a thousandth wheel bearing fit very loose

It sounds like you have a BT8 spindle, which should be using the Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing # L44643 for the inner and outer bearing.

The # L44643 bearing has a 1" inner diameter, and when compared to your spindle measuring .9870" there really shouldn't be any looseness, your bearings should have a snug fit.

If the bearings are loose like you mention than you likely have the incorrect sized bearings and would need to swap them out.
