2020 Ford Escape Brake Controller Recommendation
Question:
I have a 2020 Ford Escape 2L w/ tow package. I want a brake controller for a camper/popup. I looked at what etrailer offers for my vehicle on the site but I’m having difficulty sorting through the choices. My requirements are: - I don’t own a camping trailer yet, I’m shopping by renting different trailers/pop up’s to see what I like. The controller needs to *not* mount to trailer as I’ll likely be renting different trailers for some time and can’t mod someone else’s rig -The functional ~3000lb gvwr towing limitation of my escape suggest to me that 3 axles will never happen and 2 axles possible but unlikely for a camper that my escape can pull. - While cost is a factor, I’ll pick quality, performance, flexibility and capability over cost as I could run into multiple braking scenarios when renting different rigs. I’m looking for value..which is not necessarily the most expensive one. I’m looking for your experienced guidance on this one. Given that, which one or ones do you suggest I focus on? Thanks

As far as flexibility, performance, and compatibility goes for brake controllers I would recommend the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 as this is a wireless brake controller that only needs to plug into an active 7-way to function. Since you have the tow package already which includes a 4-way all you'd need to convert to a 7-way is the # ETBC7L which comes with everything needed to install a 7-way and the minimal wiring needed for the Echo. Other brake controller options would require a much more in-depth wiring install.
