Do I Need to Install a Braking System on My 1/2 Ton Truck for Flat Towing

Question:

We added the Blue Ox tow system to our 1/2 ton pickup to pull behind our diesel pusher. In Texas, is it required to also add a braking system or just recommend?

Pretty much every state has a requirement set in place for a brake system needing to be on a vehicle being flat towed behind a motorhome. At this point in time (August 2022) Missouri is the only state I know of that doesn't require one, but the things to remember are that you'll be traveling through multiple states plus it's much safer to have a brake system installed since you'll have better control and stopping power.

For your application I recommend installing something like the Demco Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes # SM99243 because it installs permanently on your truck but sits out of the way for everyday driving. This ties into your motorhome air line system so you get the most accurate braking action on your truck for best performance.
