Why Do I See Roof Rack Cargo Boxes Mounted to One Side on Large SUVs

I see a lot of suv s with the cargo box on one side on top, is ok to put it in the center if not why?.

Yes, it is perfectly fine to center a cargo box, like the SportRack Vista XL Box, # SR7018, on the roof of your vehicle.

The reason that you see most large sport utility vehicles and trucks with the box moved to one side is that it makes installation, removal and loading much easier because of the wide roof these vehicles have.

Mounting a cargo box in the center allows for easier entry to the box from either side of the vehicle, if the box you choose opens from either side.

If you are going to install a cargo box on one side we recommend installing it on the passengers side so you can access the box on the curb side of the vehicle, away from traffic.
