Trailer Wiring on 2002 Chrysler Town and Country Lights Quit Working With Taillights On
Question:
i just bought part # 118376 for my 2002 town & country it was simple to hook up. My question is what could be making the lights on my trailer cease to work when i turn on the headlights? The lights work great turn signal inclued until i turn on the headlights then nothing. i have tried moving the ground wire to different spots to see if it might get a better connection but it doesnt work.

When you turn on the headlights the running lights place an additional amperage draw on the system to illuminate the trailer lights. I would start by checking the vehicle side of the converter, trailer not hooked up, with a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if needed, and make sure all of the circuits going into the converter box are working properly. Then check the trailer connector and make sure all of the functions on that side are working properly. Do this with the taillights on and off. If the vehicle checks out, then go to the trailer.
If there is a bad ground on the trailer this will cause the situation you are seeing. Check all of the ground connections on the trailer especially where the taillights are mounted to the trailer frame, and where the light brackets are mounted if they are bolted to the frame. If a plastic license plate holder is mounted between the left side taillight and the trailer frame this could be the problem. Onve you have all of ground connections checked if the problem persists you will need to check for a broken pinched or frayed wire on the trailer somewhere.
