Is Upward Bend in Trailer Axle Normal
Question:
Hi. I have 2990 pound single axle 5 x 10 trailer. I was told it has a dexter axle. The floor jack was placed under the axle to lift both tires off the ground at the same time. The trailer was empty. When the jack was released the tube axle had a slight upward bow in it. Approximately a 1/2 inch upward bow from either end. Will this affect the trailer at all? I looks like all of the bearings and such are located on the outside of the leaf springs. Please let me know. Thank you.

It sounds like nothing is wrong. A standard axle like the # e38GR has a slight upward bend in it, which will flatten out and be straight under load. More than likely this has always been there and you never noticed until you looked because you were worried about the axle. However, if you are still concerned that it is damaged it wouldn't hurt to take it to a local shop and let them look at it.
