Bike Rack Recommendation for 60 lb e-Bike and Class I Hitch Receiver

Question:

I am looking at the Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 2 Fat Bikes to carry a single RadCity e-bike which weighs a little less than 60 lbs, with the battery removed. My vehicle has a Class 1 hitch. The weight capacity information on your site says the following: - Weight capacity: 60 lbs per bike 35 lbs per bike when using a Class I hitch If I am only wanting to carry one bike, can that bike weigh 60 lbs? I am wondering if the limitation of 35 lbs per bike based on carrying two bikes i.e. assuming a Class 1 hitch can only carry a total tongue weight around 100 lbs.

I definitely see where you're coming from but Saris only states to use the 35 lb bikes with their Saris Freedom Bike Rack # SA4412B-FB if you have a Class I hitch. The cradles could definitely handle it (which normally would be the limiting factor) but I'm not sure what the bike placement would have to do with anything.

The bike rack I recommend checking out for your application is the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 which will work with a Class I hitch and can handle up to 65 lb bikes. If your RadCity e-bike has fat tires then you'll also need the Adapter Kit # TH985101 so the rack will work with up to 4-11/16" wide tires.

Attached is a review video for you to check out.
