How to Use B&W Companion in 2014 Ram Without Pucks & 2015 Ram With Pucks

Question:

I have a couple Ram 2500s 14 and 15. One has a OEM Tow prep package and the other has nothing. I want to put a B&W Gooseneck in the 14 so when i buy a B&W Companion i can interchange the hitch. Question. is the B&W Companion with the pucks safer than the B&W Companion Gooseneck to Fifth wheel and is the the Gooseneck to Fifth wheel compatible with the OEM Gooseneck in the 15 RAM?

So to address your question about safety, the Companion with pucks is not safer than the Companion without pucks, they are both completely safe to use. As for using the Companion in a 2014 Ram 2500 without the puck system and a 2015 Ram 2500 with the puck system, they aren't compatible so you would need to get both a complete hitch for one truck, and a replacement base for the other.

The hitches all use the same head system so you can transfer it between the bases. Here is what you will need, depending on if you have a short bed for a sliding hitch or a long bed for a fixed hitch.

Short Bed
- Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1384-5W

- B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ram Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3670

- Replacement Slider Base for B&W Companion Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVB3405

Long Bed
- Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1384-5W

- B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3600

- Replacement Base for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVB3500

The underbed installation kit is the gooseneck and will be needed to mount the Companion that does not use the puck system. This is what you'll use for the standard Companion that uses the replacement base.
