Can the Brake Control Plug-In Harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Be Spliced in at the Tail Light
Question:
My vehicle did not come with a pre-wired plug. Could I connect the red wire for my brake controller to the brake light wire at the taillight spot, instead of at the back area of the brake pedal? Thank you so much about your expert advice!

In theory you could, but that is not how the Brake Control Plug-In Harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Brake Controller # 20127 is designed or intended to be used. It is not what we or the manufacturer would recommend and you would be taking the responsibility into your own hands at that point. Often times the vehicle brake lights get power when the headlights are turned on and you want to be sure that this is wired so that it is only activated when the brakes are applied.
You will want to use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993 to test the wires at the stoplight switch at the back of your brake pedal to find the wire that only has signal when the brake pedal is depressed.
Once you have found the wire that only produces signal when the brake pedal is depressed, you will want to splice in your red wire from your brake controller harness. You can use a splice like the quick splice # SWC502905-1 to do this.
