Hitch Lock For Kuat Beta For 2 Inch Trailer Hitch
Question:
A photo you show of the Küat Beta bike rack shows a keyed pin lock, yet your description says that this rack doesnt come with any locks. If I purchase this bike rack, do you sell Küat lock kit, or do I get that somewhere else? Also, does this Beta rack have a built-in cable for securing the bikes on the rack when in transport? Or, must one buy a good cable and jerry-rig the cable to something for security? I dont see where a cable could be used. I believe I will require a hitch extender to use the Küat Beta bike rack on my 2009 RAV4 to make sure there is some clearance between the spare tire cover and the rack when in the storage position. I do not want a 7 extension or more. Dont you have a good 2 hitch extension that is less than 7? If not, can you recommend a company that does make one shorter? I found one, Maxxhaul that is 5 1/4 extension, but it has a solid steel shank which is much too heavy for my use.

A hitch lock or cable lock does not come with the Kuat Beta Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Trailer Hitches # B202-2, so what you would need is the Cable Lock # e98891 and Hitch Lock # HL2.
For a cable lock, you'd simply wrap it around the bike rack and your bike to secure your bike, so no jerry-rigging would be required. As for the extension the shortest is the 7 inch Hitch Extender # HE06, but Kuat does not allow the use of hitch extenders with this rack, per "Do not use hitch extenders with this product" on page 7 of the product manual.
The Beta measures 7-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar, so if you need a longer distance to clear the spare tire you'd need to go with a different rack, rather than an extender. For that you can use the Swagman Titan 2 Bike Rack # S63400.
This rack is 14-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar, and comes with a cable lock, though to add a hitch lock you will need the Locking Anti-Rattle, Threaded Hitch Pin # S64029.
