How to Charge a Battery While Flat Towing and Fuses to Pull in a 2017 Chevy Equinox

Question:

I read that only fuse 16 needs to be pulled but I have also been informed that fuse 20 Engine Control Module Battery should also be pulled. I have had a dead battery in the past and want to avoid that again so I installed an RVI TBC+ so do I still need to pull both or just one fuse.

I will try to help you but I am not familiar with how the RVI TBC+ works as we do not sell it. The Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles Roadmaster, # RM-156-25 performs the same function and its quite a bit less expensive so I can advise you how it works. With it you only need to pull fuse 16 but ultimately for specific questions you will want to refer to your Equinox's owner's manual. GM put out an update for the 2010-2017 Chevy Equinox and 2010-2017 GMC Terrains with a 4 cylinder engine that covers the fuses that need to be pulled when flat towing. It states you only have to pull the 16 fuse. It used to be that you need to pull the 32 fuse too but that was causing steering system wobble when flat towing so it's now just 16. I found nothing that states fuse 20 needs to be removed but your RVI TBC+ may be different.

The Roadmaster Charge Line has an inline breaker to prevent overcharging. The charge line kit allows up to 15 amps from your RV's battery to be used to maintain the charge of your towed car's battery while the car is being towed.
