Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Flat-Towed Vehicle

Question:

I want to use a platform bike rack on my flat-tow but many manufactures dont recommend it. Im being told there is too much movement at the rear bumper. I understand that a travel trailer or 5th wheel have more movement at the rear bumper due to the rocking motion between the tow vehicle and trailer. But a flat towed vehicle has all four tires on the ground just as it does while being driven. Any rocking motion between the tow vehicle and the towed vehicle is absorbed at the pivot points on the towing hitch. Am I looking at this wrong?

You are completely correct in your reasoning and we aren't sure why more bike rack manufacturers give the green light for flat towed vehicles.

The good news is that more bike rack manufacturers are getting comfortable giving their racks the stamp of approval for flat-towed vehicles. For your application I recommend picking up the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack # KU74FR which carries 2 bikes, fits with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, and has a unique U-Shaped frame that makes it easier to load and unload your bikes.

Attached is a review video of this rack as well as a link to our selection of flat-tow-approved racks for you to filter through if you'd like.
