Recommendations For a Smoother Ride With a 12' Boat Weighing Only 500lbs On Single Axle Trailer

Question:

i have a small 12 foot boat and trailer.i have the smallest leaf springs i could find that would fit. i have new 12 inch tires. that trailer rides like a tank. it beats everything in the boat up. it has caused my boat to leak in spots. what can i do to make it ride smoother? total weight on the trailer is around 500 pounds

Due to the light weight of your trailer and boat I recommend looking at the Timbren Silent Ride Suspension for Single Axle Trailers. There are a few kits available based on the dimensions of your axle tube. This suspension is superior to leaf springs as it is progressive allowing for a smoother ride with your trailer.

Timbren Silent Ride Suspension for Single Axle Trailers w/ 1-3/4" Round Axles # TSR2000S04
Timbren Silent Ride Suspension for Single Axle Trailers w/ 2" Round Axles # TSR2000S05
Timbren Silent Ride Suspension for Single Axle Trailers w/ 2-3/8" Round Axles # TSR2000S03
Timbren Silent Ride Suspension for Single Axle Trailers w/ 2" Square Axles # TSR2000S06

Be sure to verify the weight rating for your tires as well. Higher weight capacity is not what you want as the tire will bounce more than deflect under light loads. The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.30-12 as an example is available in a load range B # AM10064 with 840lb capacity per tire and a D # AM10068 with 1,250lb capacity. This is a 820lb difference for a single axle trailer.
