Wiring to Look for Installing Westin Lighted Running Boards for 2022 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

I purchased a pair of Westin lighted running boards along with the install kit from you folks back in February. I put the boards on my 2022 Toyota 4Runner Limited. I just got around to trying to hook up the lights and am having trouble finding a suitable power source so they come on when I open the doors. I tried to splice into the green wire on the driver door plunger switch, that didn’t work. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I don’t want to screw anything up. Where? Color of wire to hook to? If you have a diagram, that would be great!

Thank you for the purchase of the Westin Molded, Lighted Running Boards w/ Custom Installation Kit # 27-0005-1945 for your 2022 Toyota 4Runner.

According to my research the driver's side trigger wire is a dark green and then a purple after the junction connector and then the passenger's side is gray and then light green after the junction connector. You'll need to use a circuit tester to verify these functions prior to making any splices into your wiring.

Once you have the correct wires I recommend splicing in using heat shrink butt connectors like part # DW05745-5 so your connections are sealed away from the elements.
