Parts Needed To Install A Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
Im just trying to plan my installation I downloaded the instructions from your web site but I did not see a wiring diagram or instructions. What wires does this controller need? Im assuming battery, ground, and the blue wire to the back of the vehicle, does it also need switched power from the ignition as well? Im installing in an old Jeep Cherokee with no factory trailer towing package so I will be running all the wires myself. I already have the 4-flat adapter and I believe I can get the reverse light signal from the same connector. Thank you!

To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 on your 2000 Jeep Cherokee you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This kit will allow you to plug into the 4-Way Harness # 118354 that you already have. It comes with the wiring and circuit breakers needed to run the charge line and brake wire to the front of your Cherokee.
The Prodigy P3 # 90195 will tie into 4 wires and 3 of them you will get with the wiring in the kit above. Using the included Universal Harness # 20127 the black wire is your 12 volt power wire from the battery, the white wire is your ground, the blue wire will travel back to the 7-way brake terminal and the red wire connects to the brake switch. The brake switch should have a White wire with tan tracer that is off until the brake pedal is pushed. Be sure to verify operation with a Test Light # PTW2993 before before attaching the wiring in the event it is different on your Jeep or the switch has gone bad.
