Compatibility of a Rear Suspension Enhancement System with an Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System

Question:

I presently have a 2008 Nissan Titan XE without a tow package. I have done several things since purchasing a 31foot 2010 Keystone Passport Ultralight to make it more conducive to pulling an RV. One of the items purchased to help with weight distribution and sway control is an Equalizer. Im sure you are familiar with it. My question is whether or not this item would be an enhancement for my towing capabilities or is it just overkill with the use of the Equalizer. I certainly do not want to hamper the effectiveness of the Equalizer by adding anything else to assist with the suspension. Your advice would be much appreciated.

We typically do not recommend adding suspension enhancement when a weight distribution hitch is being used. A rear suspension enhancement system such as the Timbren springs and a weight distribution hitch reduce sag at the rear of a vehicle. In some situations, they can work against each other and hinder each others effectiveness.

If the Equal-i-zer system is set up correctly, you should not need additional suspension enhancement. If you are still experiencing some sag, I would recommend readjusting the Equal-i-zer system or check to make sure it is properly rated for your towing setup.

The Equal-i-zer system should be strong enough to support the total tongue weight of your towing setup. The total tongue weight includes the tongue weight of your trailer when it is loaded and ready to go as well as the weight of any cargo loaded behind the rear axle of your Titan.

If you are looking to add the Timbren springs to reduce sag when you are not towing and maybe hauling a heavy load in the bed, then I would recommend looking into air helper springs like the Air Lift Ride Control Air Helper Springs, # AL59554. You can inflate the air bags when you need the additional assistance with a heavy load in the truck bed and when you plan on towing your trailer, you could deflate the air bags to the minimum psi so they would not interfere with Equal-i-zer system.
