Replacement Safety Chains For a 21 Tandem Axle Boat Trailer
Question:
I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with a class V receiver hitch and I am towing a 21 Ft. boat with a tandem axle trailer. Total weight between the boat and the trailer is about 5,000 LBS, my hitch came from the factory. My concern is getting the correct safety chains that will hook on to my trailer hitch and I have seen information about using a 3/8 clevis hook vs 5/16 clevis hook. My current safety chains are rusted and I need to know the correct length I should purchase along with the correct weight capacity. I am also attaching three photos one of my hitch and each side of my boat trailer with the current safety chains and you can see how they connect to the trailer. Can you help make a good decision. Thanks

I recommend the 42" Long Safety Chain with 5/16" Clevis Grab Hook # TCTSCG70-842-06x1 for your 21' boat trailer. You will need two of these as they are sold individually. Each chain is rated for 5,000lbs and 42" long. The 3/8" clevis hooks are going to be used with much larger chains and are overkill for what you are needing.
