Fit of Kuat NV and Recommended Hitch for 2010 Mercury Milan
Question:
Hi, Would this combination Curt class I hitch and Kuat NV work well with our 2010 Mercury Milan? Should I also purchase the Curt stabilizing strap? Our car also has the rear radar sensing system that warns us of approaching traffic when backing up. I assume whenever the Kuat is mounted well get false warnings from the system? Anything else peculiar we should know before making this rather sizable investment in a hitch/platform rack? Thank you. T.

For your 2010 Milan, I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class I hitch, part # 24865. The Draw-Tite hitch warranty does not require that a stabilizing strap be used, unlike the Curt hitch. When we installed the same hitch on a 2010 Ford Fusion, we found that when installed, the hitch pin hole to end of rear bumper clearance was 6 inches.
When installed, the Kuat NV will have 10-1/2 inches between the hitch pin hole in its shank and 7-7/8 inches between the hitch pin hole and the closest portion of the rack when its folded into the upright storage position, which means that it would be a great fit for both the hitch and your vehicle.
The rack will most likely interfere with your sensor system, but only when the vehicle is in reverse.
I have linked you to an install video for the hitch, as well as a product demonstration video for the Kuat NV.
