Replacing The Pressure Relief Valve On A Fogatti Tankless RV Water Heater

Question:

The pressure relief valve sent with the Fogatti unit has a 4 inch probe and does not look like it can work the way the directions for the Fogatti suggest it should. How do I install this with the 4 inch probe in the way the directions recommend?

LaSalle Bristol sent you a Water Heater Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve # CAM10423 which is why the it came with a 4"probe. The probe acts as a sensor for both the pressure and temperature and will push the cap open allowing it to expel water in the event that either reach an unsafe level.

The original valve on your Fogatti RV Tankless Water Heater # LSB44FR was most likely just a pressure relief valve and didn't have the added temperature probe. You have two options to install this new valve:

1. You can add on an extra pipe between the valve and the water heater to accommodate the 4" probe.

2. You can cut the probe off flush with the casting of the valve, but this will expose the the thermocouple which will then start to oxidize and cause the valve to fail prematurely. This premature failure can take a year or 20 years.

If you don't want to deal with this headache you can also just purchase a standard pressure relief valve from your local hardware store.
