Can Yakima Exo Swing Away Storage System w/ Enclosed Cargo Carrier Carry Spare Wheel and Tire
Question:
I would like to purchase a Yakima Exo two-tier system for my 2022 Coachman Nova 20C RV ProMaster chassis. I am interested in the Exo system using one enclosed cargo carrier and one open cargo carrier. These RVs do not come from Coachman with a spare tire holder. Consequently, I would like to attach a spare tire holder to the Exo open cargo carrier. The spare tire is LT225/75R-16E, which has dimensions of 29.5inch diameter and 8.5inch width. My questions are: 1. Would it be best for the open cargo carrier with attached spare tire holder be placed in the upper or bottom position for this purpose? 2. Would it make more sense to attach the spare tire holder to the rear or side of the open cargo carrier? 3. What model of spare tire holder would you suggest for this use? Thank you. P.S. Any other ideas would be appreciated. There are 1000s of ProMaster chassis RV Class B owners that have the same issue of wanting additional cargo storage space, as well as, needing a way of carrying a spare tire since their is no factory-installed spare tire holder on a ProMaster chassis.

It would be possible to carry a spare tire and wheel in the size LT225/75R-16E that you referenced in the open carrier of the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ Enclosed Cargo Carrier and Cargo Carrier # Y44ZR but the width of the carrier is only 23 inches so I would go with having the open carrier on top so that you could center the weight better in the carrier and not have to worry about the upright mast and enclosed carrier getting in the way.
Now for securing the wheel to the carrier I would recommend a ratchet strap like the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Strap set part # EM34416 which you could run through the center hole of the wheel and then around the carrier or however makes the most sense. You might want a cable lock too like the part # e98891 which could be used to lock the wheel to the carrier.
