Parts Needed to Add 7-Way Wiring and Brake Controller to 2012 Ford Escape
Question:
Hi, I have a 2012 Ford Escape with a towing package but no brake controller and only a 4 pin connection. I want to install a brake controller and a 7 pin connection and was wondering what would be the best way to do this. I know there are wireless controllers and plug and play ones and I think that in some cases all you need for it to work is to have your 7 pin connected to the 12 volt supply. I would prefer this. Anyway, if anyone has any advice for me I would appreciate it, thank you

Since you already have a 4-way on your 2012 Ford Escape the only thing you will need to upgrade your 4-way to a 7-way is the # ETBC7L. This kit comes with the adapter, wiring, and everything else you will need. This does not have the brake output wire, only the 12V power wire for the wireless brake controller like you described. If you think you might end up with a brake controller in the cab of your vehicle then I would go ahead and install the # ETBC7 instead.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Curt Echo # C51180. This wireless brake controller plugs in line with the 7-way at the back of your vehicle. This proportional brake controller uses a triple-axis accelerometer to so it is highly responsive. The braking power and manual override are controlled via the app on your phone. If you would like a physical manual override button then you can always install the # C83HR.
I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference.
