Recommended Stacked Receiver To Flat Tow A 2019 Ford Fusion And Carry An E-Bike With

Question:

Do I need to use a gen-y adapter keep the 10k lbs rating. I have a 2020 thor quantum on a ford e-450 chassis with a 10k rated hitch. I also have a blue ox avail and a 2019 ford fusion toad. I want to add a bike rack, like the swagman e-spec but I still want to be able to fold up the avail when not in use. 1, do I need to use the gen-y GH-303 I obviously dont need the balls 2, is there a more suitable rack than the swagman for a single 64 lb ebike? 3, will I need and can I use an extension on the avail for clearance? or 4, what do you recommend?

Because of the way the Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7420 folds up for storage you are going to have to remove your bike rack from the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-303 prior to folding up the tow bar. To completely clear the bike rack you would need too long of an extension to be safe flat towing your vehicle.

While it's not as convenient I do recommend going with a stacked receiver and placing the bike rack in the highest receiver with your Avail in the receiver tube closest to level as possible. You'll have to remove the bike rack to fold up the tow bar but can then slide it back in place in the receiver tube.

If you haven't already measured for the correct hi/low adapter for your towed vehicle I've attached a guide to help walk you through it so that you can choose the correct stacked receiver.

As for the bike rack I recommend the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack # HLY64FR. It has a per bike weight capacity of 80lbs and attaches to your bikes via padded clamps for easy, adjustable mounting.
