Fitment of E-Bike with Step-Thru Frame on Curt 2 Bike Rack # C18085

Question:

I am looking at the Curt 2 bike platform rack. I have a step-through ebike. Thus no cross bar. Will this rack work for me?

Yes. The Curt 2 Bike Rack # C18085 works with a step-thru style e-bike as long as you use a bike frame adapter bar # 64005. This adapter provides your bike's frame with a straight, horizontal plane that is required to mount to the Curt 2. I went ahead and attached a demo video that shows how the adapter works.

It is important to note, though, that the Curt 2 only comes with a per-bike weight capacity of 45 pounds. If your bike exceeds 45 pounds, you cannot use your e-bike with the Curt 2 even if you only plan to use that 1 bike on the rack. Also, it is important to note that the Curt 2 measures 3 inches from the pinhole to the closest part of the rack. To make sure it won't interfere with your rear bumper, I recommend measuring the center pinhole of your hitch to the outside face of your rear bumper to make sure it does not exceed 3 inches long.

If you need more weight capacity, I recommend using the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # S94FR. Not only is the E-Spec a much more sturdier overall design as the Curt 2, it has an impressive 70-pound per bike weight capacity. It also has the advantage of coming with both bike locks and a hitch lock to protect the bikes and the rack. As far as shank length, the E-Spec shines here as well; from the center of the pinhole to the closest part of the rack, it measures 10-1/2 inches, so you won't have to worry about it interfering with your bumper.

With the E-Spec, you still need to use the # 64005. If you happen to have fat tires that measure between 3-5 inches wide, you need the fat tire adapters # S64679.

I went ahead and attached some really helpful videos for you to check out.
