The Hopkins Backup Sensor System, # HM60100VA, will wire into the reverse light circuit on your 2013 Toyota Avalon. You will need to use a circuit tester, # PTW2993 if you need one, to locate the reverse light wire behind one of the taillights. Then you will ground the other wire to a bare metal surface. From there everything just plugs in.

The license plate holder part plugs into the main harness. The main harness will wire into the reverse light circuit and ground to the vehicle. The alarm will plug into the main harness as well. On a car like yours the wire leading from the license plate part to the inside of the trunk area to connect to the taillights can just be left out. The trunk can close on it because the weather stripping will protect it. Just keep the wire away from the locking and latch mechanisms.

Then you will connect to the reverse light wire in the trunk area and ground it somewhere in the same area. The alarm can then be routed through the front of the trunk area and placed on the rear sill behind the back seat.
