I checked with my technical contact at Loctite about your application for their RTV 5920 Copper Silicone Gasket Maker, part # LT37466, between header and turbo on your 1996 Impala six speed. My contact advised that so long as this silicone/copper gasket maker is used within its specified temperature and gap size limits it should be fine for use as you intend.
This product is suitable to seal both gases and fluids and works best when filling gaps between mating surfaces that measure between 0.001 inch and 0.0125 inch. Its maximum gap-filling capacity is 0.240 inches. At temperatures up to 400 degrees it retains nearly its full performance, which does diminish as it approaches its thermal limit of 600 degrees Fahrenheit. If you have a scanning digital thermometer you can check your engine operating temperature at the specific points you wish to seal to confirm that the thermal limit will not be exceeded in actual use.
