Could Stromberg Landing Gear # LG-2 Fit 2001 Tahoe 28DB

Question:

I have to replace my existing landing gear on my 2001 Tahoe 28DB 5th Wheel, and there are no indications as to brand anywhere. It looks like a Stromberg Carlson. So my plan is to replace entire unit. My current unit has welded stops on the outer tube that are 18 1/2inch from top of top stop to bottom of bottom stop. But there is still 8 3/4inch of tube below the bottom weld stop. Can I utilize my current set up with the LG2 landing gear? Also, are the dimensions of the tube the same on the LG2 as my current tube, which is 2 -1/2inch x 2 1/2? And can it be dropped into the existing u clamps if I add another weld stop at the 18 1/2inch distance like the current tube? Another thing is the manual crank location line up with the current hole in my trailer, i.e. is the top of the gear box pretty standardly located? If pictures would help, let me know what you need and I will take some and send to you. Thank you.

If what you have looks like a Stromberg Carlson then most likely the part # LG-2 would drop right in as this is a very standard setup that can fit in place of most sets of landing gear. The legs of this are 2-1/2 inch square like you have so the mounts would fit in that regard. The distance between your stops though is a little off so you might have to have new ones welded on. The standard dimension is 17-1/2 inches from outside to outside. The crank would end up in the same location as it is now.
