Recommended Weight Distribution and Sway For Towing Travel Trailer With 2 Different Height Vehicles

Question:

Hi I am looking for a weight distribution system with sway control and with so many options I am not sure what I need. I have never used one. I tow with a Chevy Suburban and Sprinter 3500 van where the hitch is a bit lower and I need to raise the ball to keep the trailer level. I am pulling a travel trailer with a dry tongue weight of 360 lbs and a GVWR of 4500 lbs. I am not sure if it matters but my travel trailer has a tongue box that could be in the way. Can you help narrow down the products that would be a good fit.

Since you will be towing your travel trailer with 2 different vehicles of different heights I recommend first starting with the BulletProof Hitches Adjustable 2-Ball Mount for 2" Hitch # ED206. This will give you up to 6" of rise or drop while fitting a 2" receiver. The Weight Distribution Shank for BulletProof Hitches # 358WEIGHTDIST can then be mounted to a weight distribution hitch and allow you to adjust the height for both your vehicles.

I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution # EQ37061ET as it is designed for trailers with a tongue weight of 200-600lbs and maximum trailer weight up to 6,000lbs. I prefer the Equal-i-zer as it has a built in sway control that does not need to be removed to maneuver your trailer. And it has stood the test of time as being one of the most dependable systems available. It does not come with a drop shank as you will be using the BulletProof parts. The brackets mount 27-32" from the coupler center. The brackets can also be welded to the frame if this measurement range is where your tongue box is located.

You will need a 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 to install the included 2" ball. If your trailer uses a 2-5/16" coupler you will need the 2-5/16" Ball # EQ91-00-6100 as well.
