Will 1500 Pound Strait-Line Weight Distribution Work for Trailer Tongue Weight of 1076-1366 Pounds
Question:
I have a 1999 F250 superduty pulling a 30 foot travel trailer, dry weight 6500 pounds, 890 dry tongue weight, 1016 tongue weight with tanks and battery. The weight behind the rear axle of truck can vary from 60 to 350 pounds depending on how much fuel is contained in the auxiliary fuel tank on the truck bed. Therefore the total tongue weight would be anywhere from 1076 to 1366 pounds. Will item RP66130 be adequate for weight distribution and sway control? Will the varying weight depletion of fuel while in travel affect the operation of the unit?

Expert Reply:
Since the Reese Strait-Line weight distribution system # RP66130, is rated for 800 to 1,500 pounds tongue weight, the fluctuation in the total tongue weight because of fuel depletion will not be an issue and the system will operate just fine under the tongue weights you have described (1,076 to 1,366 pounds).
This unit also features dual-cam sway control that stops trailer sway before it starts. It is a very effective system and will work well for you. The only things you will need to add are a ball, # 63840, and a shank with the proper rise or drop to tow the trailer level.
The recommended shank is # RP54970 rated for 1500 pounds tongue weight and with a 1-1/4 inch drop or 6-1/2 inch rise when used with trunnion bars. If you need more drop then # RP63971 has 4-3/4 inches of drop (this shank can only be used in the drop position).
I have included a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control for you.
