Weight Distribution Drop Shank Recommendation for a GMC Yukon Towing a Trailer
Question:
The distance between the ground and the underside of the cup of my trailer is 15. The distance between the top of my previous Trailblazer connector and the ground was 20. This should have meant I needed a of 5. Yet a RP54970, using the bottom holes worked fine for my weight distribution system, i.e. the trailer was level. But the RP54970 is only supposed to have a of 1 1/4inch for a trunnion system. Can you explain that ? Ive now moved to a GMC Yukon, where the distance from the top of the connector to the ground is 23. This should mean I need an 8inch . i.e. a RP3344. I dont believe it !! Why ? Well, because using the RP54970 on the Yukon, it looks like I only need to the front of the trailer another 2inch - 3, for which the RP3215 would suffice. The bumper weight of the trailer is 450lbs. Can you help explain what is happening please ? Thanks.

One explanation could be that the softer suspension of your Trailblazer was causing the rear of the vehicle when loaded to lower down enough that you did not fully need the 5 inches of drop.
The GMC Yukon you have will have much stiffer suspension and since I would hate to see you order the wrong part and have to return it I would recommend you go ahead and get the Reese Weight Distribution Shank # RP3344 since it will definitely have enough drop. Check out the review video I attached for this shank also.
I attached an FAQ article on how to pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount for you to check out also.
