I have wires from my trailer: white , black, green , yellow and and 2 brown, which appeared to be connected to yellow and green wires . The flat plug from car has white ground ,green, yellow and one other brown or black. Which wires connect to which? Expert Reply:

The wires on your trailer sound abnormal for a typical trailer. I recommend either tracing each wire to determine what function it serves or using a battery to power the wiring. The Hopkins Endurance Easy-Pull Harness # HM38134 is one of the better connectors to use. It has the pull ring that will reduce the chance of damage to your wiring in the future.

For the vehicle side your white wire is typically the ground, yellow left turn/brake, green right turn/brake and brown is the running lights. A Test Light # PTW2993 can be used to verify the vehicle side wiring.
