Yes, you can put a 5th wheel hitch in your 2006 Ford F-150 Super Crew with the 5-1/2 foot short bed. However, you will also need to use a Sidewinder in order to get the clearance needed to make tight turns, and even then, depending on the width of the trailer, it may not be enough to safely make 90 degree turns.
The first thing to determine is if there is a Sidewinder that will fit your trailer. You will need to look at the pin box for a sticker or plate that lists the pin box manufacturer and model number. Then use the chart in the bottom of the FAQ article I have linked to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit.
If there is then you will need to do a little measuring to determine if the Sidewinder will allow you to make 90 degree turns. What you will need to do is find a point in the bed that is 1-1/2 inches forward of the center of the rear axle. From that point measure to the back of the truck cab. Then add 22 inches (length of Sidewinder).
The result has to be at least 4 inches MORE than half the width of the front of the trailer to safely make 90 degree turns. If you find a Sidewinder that fits your trailer pin box, take the measurements and everything works out then you will start with a custom installation kit, # RP50081-58.
Then you will need a 5th wheel hitch. Because you have to use a Sidewinder you will need to use a fixed 5th wheel hitch. We have numerous options and I have linked the 5th wheel main page for you truck for you.
