Upgrading 4.80/4.00-8 Tire On Trailer for Higher Speed Rating

Question:

Hello, I am trying to find a better road tire for a trailer. The tires on the trailer are 4.8/4.00-8. It’s a 5 lug. I’m wanting an upgrade to a tire more suitable for 75 mph or so. Thanks

In order to increase the speed rating of your trailer you will have to upgrade to a larger size tire as the smaller 4.80/4.00-8 that you have now won't allow for higher speeds. That said, you must also first make sure you have room for a larger size tire. The Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13" White Wheel part # TA43RR is a great potential upgrade option with 81 mpg speed rating. It measures 24" diameter x 7" wide. We recommend at least 3" from the top of the tire to the fender and 1" inside the tire between the frame for suspension travel and articulation.
