Is the ETBC7 Compatible with Curt Echo on 2022 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Dear Sir/Madam, We have a 2022 Toyota Highlander that has a dealership installed flat 4 pin connector. The trailer we purchased requires a 7 way connection. The brake controller that we intended to install is your C51180, which is a wireless type. We are wondering if ETBC7 can still be used with C51180. If so, how should we install the ETBC7? Your professional guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 will allow you to use the Curt Echo # C51180 on your 2022 Toyota Highlander. However, since you do not need the electric brake output wire, you can install the # ETBC7L instead.
This helps save a little money and effort with the installation. If you would like to have the additional wire you it won't hurt anything, but it isn't necessary. Since the Echo plugs in line with your 7-way at the back of the vehicle you don't need the additional wire to send the signal to the trailer.
Also, if you would like a manual override outside of the phone app you might be interested in the Manual Override Button for Curt Echo Brake Controller # C83HR. This can be installed anywhere in the cab of your vehicle.
I have attached an installation video of the # ETBC7 on a 2019 Highlander for your reference. If you install the # ETBC7L you can use the same process and skip the brake output wire part of the installation.
