How Can I Increase My Enclosed Trailer Maximum Payload Weight Capacity?
Question:
I have a enclosed trailer with a 3500lb axle. It is tagged at 2990 gvwr. The trailer weighs 1430 so it gives me a payload of 1560, which obviously equals the 2990lb gvwr. Is there any way to increase the payload by 200 to 300 lbs which would still be less then the axle weight rating. Thanks

When it comes to an axle weight rating of 3,500 pounds, the gross weight of the vehicle cannot exceed that weight rating by any circumstances. The only way to increase the payload weight is by installing new axles. Although, you must also consider the weight capacity of the frame and floor construction when making this decision. For that reason, I strongly recommend reaching out to your trailer manufacturer to make that determination.
If you can confirm that you can increase the axle capacity, there is some information you need to determine. Firstly, you need to consider the distance between the hub face to hub face. Secondly, you need to know the distance from spring center to spring center.
For example, if you determine that you have a hub face to hub face measurement of 89" and a spring center to spring center measurement of 74", a compatible axle is the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles - 89" Long - 5,200 lbs # 8327820. I attached a diagram that shows the hub face and spring center measurements.
