Upgrading Wet Bolts and Shackle Straps for a Suretrac 16 Foot Utility Trailer

Question:

I have a newer suretrac 16 utility trailer that since almost new has had squeaky and creaky suspension since a few months old. I’m assuming the nylon bushings are shot so I have been looking into upgrading to the wet bolt kit. The trailer also has an issue with the eye of the leaf spring front and rear of equalizer making contact with frame of trailer over bumps and bridge interchanges…trailer is level, never once overloaded, only utilizing roughly 4,300lbs equipment + trailer weight of 7k capacity. This has been an issue since day 1 with northern ohio road conditions. There is only 1” or so of clearance between both leaf spring eyes and frame when trailer is loaded and level. It has 3 1/4” center of eye to center of eye shackles, in theory i would think shorter shackles would slightly raise the ride high but ultimately should solve this low clearance issue with no negative drawbacks. Is this correct? What size would you recommend? I was looking at the 2 1/4” wet bolt kit

It sounds like your shackles are too long or you have the wrong size equalizer. I do think replacing your current shackles would be the best solution. I recommend the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 2-1/4" Long Shackle Straps item # MR46ZR. These wet bolts and bronze bushings help keep your setup lubricated.
