We can get your 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD set up with a new auxiliary transmission cooler to get the lowest temperature possible when towing, and you're right that a smaller cooler won't provide the best temperature control. Because you cannot over-cool fluids, the rule of thumb with transmission coolers is that size matters so I recommend a large cooler from Derale, and you'll also need fittings:

- Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13504

- Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM # D13035

This is also a plate-and-fin cooler, which means it uses smaller plates that cover more area than other types coolers, allowing it to better agitate transmission fluid. Adding a transmission cooler really is one of the best things you can do for your truck while towing, because it is a stressor to the added cooling will help prolong the lifespan of your transmission.

Sure thing; if you want to go with an oil cooler as well, I recommend a combo transmission and engine oil cooler: - Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler with Multiple Threads # D15902
