How Close to Top of Flat Bed Does Ball Need to be For Demco Recon to Fit

Question:

I have a Dodge RAM 2500 with a Knapheide KNPPGNB868R flatbed. It has a recessed gooseneck ball the ball is 3 2/16inch tall, and there is 1 1/16inch gap to the flatbed surface. This solution looks perfect for my need, except there is some mention in the DEMCO Q and A that maximum gooseneck ball top offset is 13/16 If that max is true, is it possible to use a washer or similar shim to raise the ball top by 4/16, i.e. 1/4, or are there taller gooseneck balls? I have tried the Convert-a-ball gooseneck adapter, and: - towing does not handle that well trailer does some oscillation, even in good driving conditions - I learned it stresses my 5th wheel frame leverage looks/feelsinch wrong may void the frame warranty etrailer does not recommend this as long term solution but didnt tell me when I called before I bought it Also, I prefer to not permanently convert the 5th wheel trailer to a gooseneck I may not have this truck long term

If the gooseneck ball of your truck is removable and you could find the correct size spacer so that your ball sits and the needed height for the Demco Hijacker part # DM8550046 of 13/16 inches this would work great. Some balls are attached with a nut that has plenty of threads which would easily allow for this so you'd need to check to be sure.
