Troubleshooting Install of Brake Controller Where Brakes Only Work with Override Lever
Question:
Brake controller question…. Have a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 contoller and a 2002 Ford Ranger. Brakes are not engaging when I use the brake pedal, however they do engage when using the slider on the controller. I connected a 7 pin tester. When I step on the brake pedal, the lights light up in the picture. The LT and RT light up together and 12v, but no BK. When using the controller the BK and 12V lights are lit up, but not LT/RT assuming that comes from the 4 pin factory installed cabling. I thought I had the red cable from the controller per instructions connected to the brake light cable, apparently not. It is connected to the second green cable, as in the video on the product page. Screenshot attached. What can I be missing?

The problem is definitely the circuit that the red wire of your Prodigy P2 part # 90885 is connected to on your 2002 Ford Ranger. The best recommendation I can make is to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test all of the wires at the brake pedal switch until you have found the one that has 12 volts only when the brakes are applied. It could be you have the right circuit though and you have a third brake light fuse blown on your truck so you might check that. You can do that simply by seeing if the third brake light on the truck cab lights up when you press the brakes. It could also be that your quick splice isn't seating properly to the wire you have it connected to as well.
