How To Install Brake Controller and 7-Way On 2006 Ford F-150 with 4-Way
Question:
So I am looking at wiring diagrams and about to buy a brake controller from you . it has a variation of the tow package because the clip for the break controller is under the dash , it has a trans cooler , a four prong , and a class 4 hitch . I want to do things as neatly as possible and use a factory wire harness from a different version of the same year f150 that automatically has a 4 and 7 prong built in . The part number is 5L3Z-13A576-BA and it has identical plug INS to the one one my truck . Would this wiring harness work or do I have to cut into my current harness and splice into it ? If the front brake controller just plugs in like in the other forms , then it gives me reason to believe the wires are there and they are just blocked off at that clip .

I do have an option for you but just because there is a brake controller plug under the dash and a factory 4-way trailer connector does not mean you have the wires for the 7-way at the rear. In some cases, they are run midway and just need extended but other times they are not run at all. I have attached a help article for you that shows you where to look for the wires if ran but otherwise you'd be looking at a full install using an adapter like the 4 to 7-Way with 4-Way part # ETBC7. This then comes with the rest of what you need for a trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195.
If you end up finding the wires then you can just use the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185 and Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3035-P.
