Weight Distribution Recommendation for 6,000 lb Dry Travel Trailer

Question:

Hello, Im looking for product suggestions and to gather some information, I own a 2016 Silverado 1500 double cab, 5.3L Z71 4x4. Im looking to purchase a camper anywhere from 20 to 26 ft total length, the models Ive looked at seem to be just a little under 6000lb dry Im wondering what type of weight distributing or sway setup you would recommend truck has factory hitch and if rear airbags are suggested, Ill be adding a brake controller. Any information is appreciated, thank you.

Thank you for all of the details!

When looking into purchasing a Weight Distribution (WD) system you want to find one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer, which you can use part # e99044 for, along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.

For your application I would guesstimate the GVWR of your trailer will be about 8,000 lbs so we need to look at a TW of 800 lbs - 1,200 lbs for the trailer alone so I recommend checking out the Blue Ox TrackPro # BLU27FR which has a TW range of 1,000 lbs - 1,300 lbs and it comes with a 2-5/16" hitch ball.

Attached is a review video for you to check out. If your trailer GVWR is something different or your TTW doesn't fall in the range of the TrackPro I recommended please let me know and I can make a different recommendation for you.

You can install an air bag kit but you really shouldn't need one if you have a properly rated WD system.
