Recommended 4.80 x 12 Trailer Tire & Rim w/ 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern For High Speeds on PWC Trailer
Question:
I currently have the 4.80x12 on my continental PWC trailer now. 5 lugs 4.5. What wheel and tire configuration would you recommend if I wanted to drive at speeds over 65 MPH? Ideally at least 75 MPH?

Expert Reply:
For a higher speed 4.80 x 12 tire, you'll need to go with a radial tire, and specifically one from Taskmaster, which has a speed rating of "M" which is 81 mph. The tire and wheel come separate, but that does mean you have an option of what style of wheel you want. Here is the tire that will work, as well as the wheel options:
- Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C
- Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized Finish # AM20134
or
- Aluminum HWT Series S5 Split Spoke Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Silver # AM22319HWT
This will give you a high-quality tire so you can hit the highway at faster speeds, and both wheels are good options for a PWC trailer, as one is galvanized steel and the other is aluminum so you won't have to worry about corrosion.
