Which Thule Motion Rooftop Cargo Box Will Fit My 2013 Volvo XC70, The 18 Cu Ft Or 22 Cu FT

Question:

Hello, I am wanting to purchase a Thule travel/ roof box for my 2013 Volvo XC70. I will need to also get the cross bars that is compatible/ universal to use for my future car. My question is: will the Thule Motion XT 18 or 22 cu ft fit best? I want to still open my trunk, and I have the factory- permanent antenna the is on top of the roof as well. I’m looking for a great product with very minimal wind/ noise. Which product do you recommend? Thank you for you time and guidance. .

In order to carry a rooftop cargo box, you will need a roof rack. I am a big fan of the Yakima roof racks because it is easier to choose varying crossbar lengths. If you want to use your crossbars on a future car, my recommendation is to go one size up in crossbar length. The most common crossbar length is a 60' crossbar, which is considered a medium. The Yakima roof rack that I recommend for your 2013 Volva XC70 will consist of the following items:

Yakima JetStream Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 60" Long part # Y00426
TimberLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails part # Y33TR
Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores (QTY 4), part # Y07204

This roof rack has a weight limit of 165 lbs. I included the Yakima Same Key System Lock Cores so you can secure the rack to the roof of your vehicle.

The Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 18 cu ft - Black Glossy, part # TH629806, will fit your vehicle without interfering with the opening of your rear hatch or your antenna. The 22 cu ft Thule Motion will be to big for your vehicle.
The 18 cu ft box needs at least 51-1/4" from the front crossbar on your roof rack to the line where the roof and the hatch meet on your vehicle. The 22 cu ft box needs 55".
