Installation and Troubleshooting Wesbar Replacement Lights and Right Turn Signal Not Functioning

Question:

I need to know what are right color of wires are on the 403026 and 403076 models should be? I took them both out of the packages before i saw they had different numbers. I installed them, but the turn signal on the right side does not blink. My labels in the packages said one was a roadside light and the other one said curbside use. Is roadside the driver side and curbside the passenger side? Thanks,

The Wesbar # 403026 is considered the left hand side, the drivers side, or roadside. The Wesbar # 403076 is for the right hand side, passengers side or curb side.

It should not matter which one is installed the wiring to the replacement trailer light is not side dependent. The only difference between the two is that the left hand side # 403026 has a clear section under the light that also functions as a license plate illuminator.

If the turn signal on the right hand side is not functioning then there is most likely an issue with the wiring leading up to the light. To troubleshoot the issue start by isolating the issue to the vehicle or to the trailer. I suggest checking your vehicle wiring connection point and make sure that there is no noticeable signs of damage or corrosion.

Then proceed to make sure that the lighting functions are working properly at the wiring connection point on your vehicle. I suggest using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and make sure that the pins or blades on the vehicle connection are working properly when the turn signal is activated. If you do not have signal at the vehicle and trailer connection point, then the wiring to the vehicle connection point or the connector itself may be damaged and will need replacement.

If the functions at the vehicle connection point are working properly then you can proceed to check the trailer lighting functions. I would check and make sure that the trailer is properly grounded, as well as each of the replacement lights. If the trailer or light is not properly grounded then the light will not function properly.

The next item is to check the wiring leading to the right side turn signal, which is typically the green wire. Look for any cracks in the insulation, exposed wires or corrosion on the wiring itself and that might be the issue. Pay close attention to any areas near moving parts to see if the wiring is damaged or pinched. If you notice damage to the wiring that section can be removed and replaced using appropriate connectors and gauge of wire.

Additionally if your trailer is an aluminum trailer, has a fold away tongue or has a tilt bed the trailer may not be grounded properly. Aluminum is not the an optimal metal for grounding purposes. Fold away tongue trailers and tilt beds offer pinch points that can damage wire as well as the moving parts are not always in full contact with the metal and can interrupt the grounding current.

I have included two helpful article that shows the typical wiring diagrams and explain troubleshooting wiring.
