According to my technical contact at Surco the Safari Rooftop Cargo Basket that you referenced # SPS4550-1101, is confirmed as a fit if your 2012 Jeep Patriot Latitude as long as it has factory installed roof rails, which is most likely has.
This cargo basket attaches to the factory roof rails using a clamp kit. We include a this clamp kit on our products so that it is compatible with your Patriot, and it can accommodate roof rails up to 2 inches wide.
Before installing this roof rack please check your owners manual or check with Jeep and determine what the roof weight capacity is of your vehicle, and not to exceed that weight capacity with this cargo basket.
In order to load your gear in your cargo basket you might be interested in a tire step like the # HE4040. This adjustable step fits a variety of vehicle tires, and folds flat for convenient storage when not in use.
I have included links to the parts listed above, a video, and a helpful article that explains some additional information about roof mounted cargo baskets.
