Best Mid-Range Platform Wheel Mount Bike Rack with Locks

Question:

I saw one comment from customer who bought the Mono Rail that the bikes wobble a bit as well as the cheap locks. Most concerned with the wobble. I have a 2” Draw Tite hitch already installed. One other bike carrier I like is the Curt 18088. What are your thoughts? Thanks

The RockyMounts MonoRail # RKY10004 is a solid choice for a bike rack and I'd go with it over the Curt Bike Rack # C89JR (the same as 18088) any day of the week. Curt isn't a huge bike rack manufacturer so I'm not very confident in their recreational products to be honest - when it comes to towing though, Curt is right at the top with others. In regards to bikes wobbling this shouldn't be the case if they were installed properly. You might see the bike rack wobble some during travel but the bikes should be completely secured (see attached test course video).

When it comes to the locks if you feel they are a bit cheap then I recommend using an additional cable lock like the etrailer Cable Lock # e98891. If you're wanting to avoid using the additional cable then we'll have to look at a different bike rack and for that I recommend the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU84FR. This comes with a nice cable lock and then you can get the hitch lock # HL2 to lock the bike to your hitch receiver. Kuat does an excellent job with their racks and they don't come out with anything that is low-quality.

Attached is a review video of the Transfer V2 for you to check out.
