What Ladder Rack do You Recommend with the BAKFlip MX4 # BAK72426 on My 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

Question:

There are no stake pockets on a toyota tacoma, so how does it install? The BAK MX4 cover lowers the bed rail system, is there an adapter that connects to that?

The great thing about the BAKFlip MX4 Hard Tonneau Cover - Folding # BAK48427 on your 2022 Toyota Tacoma (6-foot bed) is that it leaves the stake pockets completely open for stake-mounted ladder racks.

For the absolute best option, I recommend the Adarac Pro Series Custom Truck Bed Ladder Rack - Aluminum # A26ZR (matte black) or # A86ZR (aluminum). There are a lot of benefits to using this model with the # BAK48427. First off, since the uprights stand straight up and do not angle inward toward the center of the truck, there is absolutely no rubbing when you open and close the MX4. Also, the Pro Series comes with uprights that can be adjusted anywhere along the length of the rail caps for a custom spread. The rack comes with 500-pound weight capacity and has high enough uprights for your cover to fold underneath. Lastly, since the square crossbars only measure 1-1/2" x 1-1/2", they are compatible with many clamp-on accessories. This is a huge advantage over most other ladder racks that have wider and taller bars. As far as compatibility, the Pro Series fits your bed whether you have the Deck Rail System or not.

To top it all off, you have the option of adding tie-down eye bolts # A4000882 and adjustable load stops # A4000880. For a great pair of straps to hold your cargo during transport, I suggest the Erickson Cam Buckle Straps # EM34409.

According to the research I have available on the 2022 Toyota Tacoma, if you do not have plastic tabs covering the stake pockets, the pockets are most likely housed underneath the bed rail caps. Some newer models of Toyota trucks require cutting the caps in order to access the stake pockets. Toyota did this to decrease water infiltration with beds that either have open pockets or removable tabs to access the pockets. Before cutting, I recommend consulting with your vehicle's owner's manual or reaching out to your local Toyota dealer to confirm that your bed model has these under-cap pockets.
